Create and capture a pre-authorization

You can use the Self-Care Portal to place a temporary hold on a customer's card for an estimated amount. After you create a pre-authorization, you can capture the payment to complete the transaction.

To create and capture a pre-authorization, complete the following steps:

  1. Create a pre-authorization.
  2. Capture the pre-authorization.

Step 1: Create a pre-authorization

  1. Log in to https://payments.payroc.com/merchant/selfcare/.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Virtual Terminal, and then select Pre-Authorization.
  3. In the Amount box, enter the authorization amount.
  4. In the Description box, enter a description for the transaction.
  5. From the Payment Type dropdown menu, select Card.
  6. In the Card Number box, enter the card number.
  7. From the Expiry Date dropdown menu, select the month and year that the card expires.
  8. In the Cardholder Name box, enter the cardholder's name.
  9. From the Receipt Language dropdown menu, select the language of the receipt.
  10. Select PERFORM PRE-AUTH.

Step 2: Capture the pre-authorization

  1. From the navigation menu, select Virtual Terminal, and then select Pre-Auth Completion.
  2. Enter one of the following details of the transaction:
    1. In the Order ID box, enter the order ID of the pre-authorization.
    2. In the Card Number box, enter the card number.
  3. Select SEARCH.
  4. Next to the pre-authorization that you want to capture, select Complete.
  5. Review the pre-authorization details and confirm the amount in the Amount box, and then select CONTINUE.

Note:  If you enter an amount that is more than 15% above the original pre-authorization amount, the portal prompts you to confirm a reversal and a new sale transaction. 

  1. Select COMPLETE.
