Complete a voice authorization

Use voice authorization to authorize a sale or to perform an address verification (AVS) check over the phone. You can use voice authorization when your payment device is unavailable or when a transaction needs additional verification. Before you call, you need the following information:

  • Your merchant ID (MID)
  • The customer's payment details

The steps to complete a voice authorization vary depending on your payment processor. Use the table below to identify your processor, and then go to the correct instructions.

MID that starts with Processor Instructions

You can use voice authorization to authorize a sale or to perform an AVS check.

Authorize a sale

Identify your account

  1. Call 1-800-645-9120.
  2. Enter your merchant ID, and then press #.

Enter the sale information

  1. Enter the card number, and then press #.
  2. Enter the 4-digit expiration date, and then press #.
  3. To authorize a sale, press 1.
  4. Enter the sale amount, and then press #. Enter the amount in cents, for example, enter 100 for $1.00. 
  5. Confirm the amount that you entered:
    • If the amount is correct, press 1.
    • If the amount is incorrect and you want to enter a different amount, press 2.
  6. If the sale is approved, you receive an approval message along with the authorization code. To repeat the message, press 0.
  7. (Optional) Start a new authorization:
    • To start a new authorization for the same card, press 1
    • To start a new authorization for a different card, press 2.

Perform an AVS check

Identify your account 

  1. Call 1-800-645-9120.
  2. Enter your merchant ID, and then press #.

Enter the customer's information

  1. Enter the card number, and then press #.
  2. Enter the 4-digit expiration date, and then press #.
  3. To perform an AVS check, press 2.
  4. Enter the customer’s street number with apartment number, if it applies, and then press #, for example, if the address is 457 Main Street Apartment 2, enter 4572
  5. Enter the customer’s zip code, and then press #.
  6. Listen for the message to confirm whether the address matches. To repeat the message, press 0.
  7. (Optional) Start a new authorization:
  8. To start a new authorization for the same card, press 1
  9. To start a new authorization for a different card, press 2

Authorize a sale

Identify your account

  1. Call 1-800-291-4840
  2. For English, press 1. For Spanish, press 2.
  3. Enter the merchant ID, and then press #.
  4. Enter the merchant’s ZIP code, and then press #.

Enter the sale information

  1. To authorize a sale, press 1.
  2. Enter the card number, and then press #.
  3. Enter the 4-digit expiration date, and then press #.
  4. Enter the sale amount, and then press #. Enter the amount in cents, for example, enter 100 for $1.00. 
  5. Confirm the amount that you entered:
    • If the amount is correct, press 1
    • If the amount is incorrect and you want to enter a different amount, press 2.
  6. If the sale is approved, you receive an approval message along with the authorization code and transaction ID. To repeat the message, press 1.
  7. (Optional) To start a new authorization, press *.

Identify your account

  1. Call 1-800-291-4840.
  2. For English, press 1. For Spanish, press 2.
  3. Enter your merchant ID.
  4. Enter your ZIP code, and then press #.

Enter the customer's information

  1. To perform an AVS check, press 22.
  2. Enter the card number, and then press #.
  3. Enter the 4-digit expiration date, and then press #.
  4. Enter the customer’s street number with apartment number, and then press #, for example, if the address is 457 Main Street Apartment 2, enter 4572
  5. Enter the customer’s ZIP code, and then press #.
  6. Listen for the message to confirm whether the address matches. To repeat the message, press 1
  7. (Optional) To start a new authorization, press *.

Fiserv Omaha or Fiserv North FDMS

You can use voice authorization to authorize a sale or to perform an AVS check.

Authorize a sale

Identify your account

  1. Call 1-800-228-1122.
  2. To authorize a sale, press 1.
  3. Enter your merchant ID, and then press #.

Enter the sale information

  1. Enter the card number, and then press #.
  2. Enter the 4-digit expiration date, and then press #.
  3. Enter the sale amount, and then press #. Enter the amount in cents, for example, enter 100 for $1.00. 
  4. Confirm the amount that you entered:
    • If the amount is correct, press 1
    • If the amount is incorrect and you want to enter a different amount, press 2.
  5. To authorize a sale for goods and services, press 1.
  6. If the sale is approved, you receive an approval message along with the authorization code.
  7. (Optional) To begin another authorization, follow the prompt to enter the card number.

Perform an AVS check

Identify your account 

  1. Call 1-800-228-1122.
  2. To perform an AVS check, press 2.
  3. Enter the merchant ID, and then press #.

Enter the customer's information

  1. Enter the card number, and then press #.
  2. Enter the 4-digit expiration date, and then press #.
  3. Enter the customer’s street number with apartment number, and then press #, for example, if the address is 457 Main Street Apartment 2, enter 4572

Authorize a sale

Identify your account

  1. Call 1-800-645-9120.
  2. Enter your merchant ID or authorization ID, and then press #
  3. Enter your 10-digit business phone number, and then press #
  4. From the list, select your business name. 

Enter the sale information

  1. To authorize a sale, press 1.
  2. Enter the card number, and then press #.
  3. Enter the 4-digit expiration date, and then press #.
  4. Enter the CVV code, and then press #.
  5. Enter the sale amount, and then press #. Enter the amount in cents, for example, enter 100 for $1.00. 
  6. Confirm the amount that you entered:
    • If the amount is correct, press 1.
    • If the amount is incorrect and you want to enter a different amount, press 2.
  7. To authorize a sale for goods and services, press 1.
  8. If the sale is approved, you receive an approval message along with the authorization code. To repeat the message, press 1.
  9. (Optional) Start a new authorization:
    • To perform an AVS check for this transaction, press 2.
    • To start a new authorization, press 3.
